Track and Field Has Strong Showing at 2018 VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's outdoor track and field teams combined for 13 individual top-ten finishes while setting 15 new personal records at the 2018 VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University's Vert Stadium.
 
Sarah Mitchell earned a second place finish in the women's shot put with a toss of 13.73 meters.  Cailen Blaire finished 14th with a mark of 11.32 meters.
 
Mitchell also finished third in the women's discus with a distance of 41.68 meters, while Blare placed 12th at 37.38 meters.
 
In the women's hammer throw, Petra Jakeljic placed third with a mark of 54.29 meters.  Blaire earned a ninth place finish at 47.79 meters, setting a new personal record.
 
Jordan Smith took home a third-place finish in the men's shot put with a toss of 15.26 meters.  Ross Lucia finished eighth overall with a career-best mark of 13.58 meters.
 
Smith also finished third in the men's discus with a distance of 45.03 meters.  Lucia had a mark of 39.17 meters, while Kenneth Vanvorst set a new personal record with a throw of 34.77 meters.
 
Lucia also set a new personal record in the men's hammer throw at 51.07 meters, finishing in fourth place.
 
Patrick Sastre earned a fifth-place finish in the men's 800-meter run with a personal best time of 1:57.81.
 
In the men's 100-meter dash, Carlos Williams set a new personal record with a time of 10.73 seconds to earn an eighth place finish.  Austin Billiot clocked in at 11.41 seconds, while Chris Tobin set a new PR with a time of 11.49 seconds.
 
Taylor Hotchkiss finished in ninth in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.25 meters.
 
Ashleigh Cleveland earned a ninth place finish in the women's javelin with a distance of 28.02 meters.  Hotchkiss placed 12th with a mark of 25.59 meters.
 
Cleveland also placed 12th in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.46 meters.
 
In the women's pole vault, Karin Sastre earned an 11th place finish with a mark of 3.51 meters.  Sarah Coleman finished in 14th at 3.31 meters.
 
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Ezekiel Martin placed tenth with a time of 10:19.72
 
Austin Evans set a new PR in the men's 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 16.00 seconds to finish 14th.  Ralph Jolly finished 16th at 17.60 seconds
 
Evans also finished 15th in the men's long jump with a mark of 5.74 meters.
 
In the women's 200-meter dash, Diviana Forrest earned a 15th-place finish with a time of 25.91 seconds.  Kira Ramsey timed in at 26.92 seconds.
 
Hannah Sparacio placed 17th in the women's 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 1:02.49
 
Caleb Silvey took home an 18th place finish in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.52 seconds.
 
Maya Mallory clocked in at 13.31 seconds in the women's 100-meter dash to set a new personal record.
 
In the women's 1,500-meter run, Hannah Jones timed in at 5:10.36, Jenika Hrushka finished at 5:11.91, and Amy Turlington clocked in at 5:15.99.  All three set new personal best times for the event.
 
Josh Parks timed in at 4:24.46 to lead GWU in the men's 1,500-meter run, followed by Keaton Poole at 4:32.07, Sam Hermanns at 4:53.08, and Bogdan Podgaisky, who timed in with a personal best time of 4:54.63.
 
Sydney Davis finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:59.01, followed by Logan McGuirt at 21.07.46.
 
Mitchell Brown completed the men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:40.13.
 
The team of Kira Ramsey, Karin Sastre, Maya Mallory, and Diviana Forrest completed the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.44 seconds to earn a fifth-place finish.
 
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, the team of Diviana Forrest, Hannah Sparacio, Kelsey Houser, and Maya Mallory timed in at 4:17.73.
 
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Carlos Williams, Austin Billiot, Chris Tobin and Austin Evans timed in at 43.19 seconds to place seventh.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay grouping of Caleb Silvey, Carlos Williams, Patrick Sastre, and Ezekiel Martin finished with a time of 3:31.85.
 
Next up, the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Charlotte Invitational, beginning on Friday, April 13 in Charlotte, N.C.
