Runnin' Bulldogs' Match Versus Wofford Ends in Scoreless Draw

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – In a physical match that featured six cards, Gardner-Webb and Wofford battled to a scoreless, double overtime draw in front of a packed house at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

"It was a tough, physical match tonight," said head coach Tony Setzer."We didn't have a ton of chances, but the chances we had were good looks. Grant Glorioso played a great match in goal to hold a talented Wofford squad scoreless. Our staff saw a lot of positives tonight to take into our match against Mercer on Sunday."

Wofford (0-2-1) controlled the tempo early with four shots in the first 25 minutes. In the 37th minute, the Terriers registered their first shot on goal but a diving stop by Glorioso kept the visitors off the scoreboard.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (0-2-1) would not register their first shot attempt until 15 minutes into the second period when freshman Oliver Noevik attempted a header that ended up wide of the net.

Less than 10 minutes after Noevik's shot, Ismael Guerrero took Gardner-Webb's first corner kick of the match but was unable to find a teammate in the box for a shot.

The Terriers nearly took the lead in the 72nd minute as Andreass Suri's header hit off the crossbar, but Wofford was unable to regain possession as Gardner-Webb cleared the ball towards their attacking half of the field.

Just over five minutes later, Glorioso made two consecutives saves for the 'Dogs – one in the 79th minute and one in the 80th minute – to preserve the tie.

As time wound down, Magnus Moldjord had a pair of attempts in the final 75 seconds of regulation, but both were wide of the goal.

In the first overtime period, the Terriers added three shots to the box score but could not find the back of the net and take home the victory.

The two squads combined for three attempts in the final 10 minutes, as Wofford took two shots and the Runnin' Bulldogs had one attempt. Glorioso made his fourth and final save in the 102nd minute of the match.

Gardner-Webb's only attempt in the second overtime session came from Jonas Olsaker who sent a shot well wide of the net with less than five seconds remaining, as the game ended in a scoressless tie.

Wofford outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs, 19-5, but held just a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. The two teams each attempted three corner kicks.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will play their second consecutive home match on Sunday, September 2, when Mercer comes to Boiling Springs for another Big South/SOCON challenge match. Kickoff between the 'Dogs and Bears is set for 2 p.m.
