HIGH POINT, N.C. –
Kylee Garrison had 13 kills, yet Gardner-Webb fell to High Point in straight sets in Big South Conference volleyball action on Friday evening at the Millis Center.
GWU falls to 5-9 overall and 0-2 in Big South play, while High Point improves to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in league play, taking all three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-22, and 25-15.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had 26 total kills on 95 attempts for a .063 attack percentage, while the Panthers totaled 42 kills on 98 swings for a .255 attacking rate.
"We knew coming in to the match that we were playing a solid, disciplined program," stated GWU head coach
Leo Sayles after the match. "We started a little tight but settled down as we got into the second set.
Amanda Sahm is doing a tremendous job distributing the ball and challenging opponents, and
Charissa Coleman's defensive play has been outstanding. I believe our young team is starting to pick up their competitive spirit."
Garrison led GWU with 13 kills on 36 swings for a team-best .167 attack percentage.
Amanda Sahm provided a match-high 22 assists on the evening.
Charissa Coleman led the 'Dogs with 13 digs, while
Hannah Donaldson and
Nichole Ford each posted two blocks to lead the team.
High Point was led on the attack by Molly Livingston, who had 13 kills on 23 attempts, attacking a .478 clip. Mackenzi Thornburg and Jenna Smith each had 17 assists to lead the team.
Abby Bottomley led HPU in digs with 17, while Katie Tylman had a team-best two blocks on the evening.
Gardner-Webb returns to action next Friday evening, opening up a three-match home stand by hosting Charleston Southern. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time from Paul Porter Arena and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
