September 28, 2018 | Swimming
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swimming programs are set to open the 2018-19 season, taking on Florida Atlantic and North Florida on Saturday afternoon.
The women's team will face host North Florida while both teams take on Florida Atlantic beginning at 1:00 pm at Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be opening a new era Saturday afternoon, as head coach Scott Teeters will lead the swim programs in his first meet after taking the reigns from Mike Simpson, who departed over the summer for a coaching position at the University of South Carolina.
GWU will have plenty of experience on both sides, led by the 15 seniors. On the men's side, Joshua Clarke, Dalton Meyers, Drew Peden, Brendan Teeters, and Peter Wakeley all return for their final campaign. Kate Arceneaux, Anna Banick, Juliana Denmark, Miranda Johns, Bethany Leap, Emily Nordberg, Whitney Peters, Morgan VanderSchaaf, Tessa Walsh, and Carol Zangla each return for their senior season to lead the women's squad.
Gardner-Webb also returns seven Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Conference recipients in Banick, Seggio Bernardina, Justin Conklin, Zach Dingfield, Cullen Fields, Jordan Mintz, and Jessi Snover.
Following Saturday's meet, Gardner-Webb will return home for its first home meet of the season, as the men's team hosts Catawba and the women's squad squares off against Campbell at Bost Pool on Friday, October 5.
