
Women’s Swimming Falls to Wingate, 138-124, Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's swimming team had seven event wins, along with 32 top-five finishes, yet the Runnin' Bulldogs were edged by visiting Wingate by a 138-124 score on Saturday afternoon.
The afternoon kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the team of Charity Bennett, Whitney Peters, Tessa Walsh, and Jennifer Jackson place second at 1:49.74, followed by the grouping of Audrey Robinson, Anna Banick, Jessi Snover, and Blake Broullire in third at 1:51.86.
Morgan VanderSchaaf placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:40.09. Kate Arceneaux touched the wall at 11:00.30 to finish in fourth.
Carol Zangla finished second overall in the 200-yard freestyle, timing in at 1:57.71. Jennifer Jackson placed fourth at 2:00.75.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Charity Bennett placed second at 1:00.62, followed y Audrey Robinson in third at 1:01.42. Spencer Lucas finished fifth overall at 1:01.91.
Whitney Peters placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.19. Miranda Johns placed fifth at 1:09.55.
GWU had the top-two finishers in the 200-yard butterfly, as Tessa Walsh finished first at 2:08.43, followed by Mary Traylor at 2:08.54 in second.
Audrey Robinson took home the 50-yard freestyle title, touching the wall at 25.32 seconds. Charity Bennett placed fifth, timing in at 25.61 seconds.
Jessi Snover led a trio of top-five finishers in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing first at 53.86 seconds. Audrey Robinson finished second at 55.12 seconds, while Blake Broullire placed fifth overall at 55.83 seconds.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Mary Traylor finished in second with a time of 2:10.52, while Spencer Lucas finished third at 2:10.99.
Whitney Peters placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, timing in at 2:33.16. Kailey Conklin followed at 2:33.80 to finish in fourth, while Miranda Johns finished in fifth at 2:33.89.
Morgan VanderSchaaf earned a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 5:16.38. Kate Arceneaux placed fourth with a time of 5:22.25.
Tessa Walsh placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.91 seconds. Carol Zangla finished in third place at 1:00.33.
Jessi Snover took home the 200-yard IM title, touching the wall at 2:10.76. Mary Traylor placed fourth at 2:11.29, while Spencer Lucas placed fifth at 2:12.51.
The meet wrapped up with the 400-yard freestyle relay, which saw the grouping of Jennifer Jackson, Carol Zangla, Jessi Snover, and Morgan VanderSchaaf place second with a time of 3:38.88. The team of Tessa Walsh, Spencer Lucas, Mary Traylor, and Kate Arceneaux placed fourth at 3:46.26.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action next Saturday afternoon, hitting the road to face off against UNC Wilmington. Action is scheduled for an 11:00 am start time.
