BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb men's basketball will hold its annual Red/Black Scrimmage Monday night, with opening tip set for 7:30 pm in Paul Porter Arena.
Admission for the event is free. For more information, call the Gardner-Webb Athletics office at (704) 406-4340.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play a pair of 12-minute periods with the 2019-2020 roster divided evenly for the scrimmage. An additional scrimmage period will follow the 12-minute regular periods.
The evening will provide fans a first look at the newest version of the Runnin' Bulldogs, who have garnered high praise already this preseason. Both Athlon and Blue Ribbon Basketball Handbook have picked Gardner-Webb as their preseason favorites in the Big South Conference race.
With a veteran core of 10 returning letterwinners, including six men with starting experience, Gardner-Webb is well stocked after making its first NCAA Tournament appearance last season. Swingman
Jose Perez is the top returning scorer, rebounder and assist man from last season and was tabbed as the Big South's preseason Player of the Year by both Athlon and Blue Ribbon.
Perez isn't the only highly-rated returner, with
Nate Johnson,
Jaheam Cornwall,
Christian Turner and
Eric Jamison, Jr., each coming off strong seasons. The Big South's top-rated recruiting class will also make its debut on Monday night.
Gardner-Webb will open the regular season on Tuesday, November 5, at home vs. Furman (7 pm / ESPN+).
