RIVERSIDE, Calif – Gardner-Webb picked up five wins on the afternoon, but would drop a narrow 22-16 decision at California Baptist in GWU's first dual match of the 2019-20 season.
Action began at 141 pounds, where
Brandon Bright earned a narrow 4-3 decision over Adam Velasquez to give the 'Dogs an early 3-0 advantage.
After falling at 149 pounds, GWU racked up three consecutive decisions, with
Evan Schenk defeating Zach Roe, 6-4, at 157 pounds,
RJ Mosley blanking Josh Grant, 5-0, at 165 pounds, and
Samuel Mora defeating Jacob Cooper by a 10-2 major decision at 174 pounds. That gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a 13-3 lead over CBU.
California Baptist narrowed GWU's lead to 13-8 after a tech fall at 184 pounds, but
Roderick Davis would pick up a slim 5-4 decision over Arick Lopez at 197 pounds to put the 'Dogs on top by a 16-8 margin.
CBU would go on to take the following three matches to take the overall match win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action tomorrow, taking part in the Roadrunner Open in Bakersfield, Calif.
