ROANOKE, Va. – Gardner-Webb posted three top-six finishes Sunday afternoon at the 2019 Southeast Open, with freshman Samuel Mora placing second at 174 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division.
 
Mora opened the day with a 4-3 decision over Campbell's NaKoda Siegel – competing unattached for the Buies Creek RTC.  He followed that with a 4-0 decision over West Virginia's Isaiha Casto and a 10-1 major decision over Davidson's Steven Newell before dropping a narrow 9-8 decision in the 174-pound finals to Appalachian State's Barrett Blakely.
 
Competing unattached at 197 pounds, JT Trautman finished in fourth place.  After dropping his opening bout to Davidson's Evan Clark by a 4-2 decision, Trautman rattled off wins over Buies Creek RTC's Josiah McCallum, VMI's Solomon Harris, and avenged his earlier loss by defeating Clark by a 4-1 decision.  In the third-place match, Trautman fell to Maryland's Kevin Makosy by a 11-5 decision.
 
Will Edmiston, competing unattached at 133 pounds, placed sixth overall.  After defeating unattached James Ruona by a 10-5 decision in the opening match, Edmiston dropped a 7-1 decision to Davidson's Kyle Gorant.  He bounced back by taking the next two matches by pin, taking Dylan Wilman of Mount Olive to the mat in just 1:29 before finishing Appalachian State's Tyler Kellison in 6:55.  Edmiston's day finished with a 9-6 loss to Lucas Seibert of West Virginia in the fifth-place match.
 
Also picking up multiple wins in the freshman/sophomore division were Anthony Schiess at 149 pounds, Jacon Conrad at 157 pounds, and John Ridle at 165 pounds.
 
Five Runnin' Bulldogs competed in the open division, with Brandon Bright earning multiple wins at 141 pounds.  After falling to George Mason's Alex Madrigal, Bright answered by pinning Chattanooga's George Coleman in 1:43 and defeating Virginia's Scotty Kiyono by a 3-2 decision.  Bright's day ended with a 6-2 loss to Danny Bertoni of the Terrapin WC.
 
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, November 9, taking part in the Appalachian Invite in Boone, N.C.
