CHARLESTON, SC – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team had a road match for the second time in as many days on Sunday afternoon and fell to the College of Charleston Cougars, 5-2, in non-conference action.
The Cougars won the doubles point to a take an early 1-0 lead and clinched the match with three victories to begin singles play.
Before everything was all said and done in Charleston, the Runnin' Bulldogs earned a pair of singles victories in the No. 3 and No. 6 flights respectively.
Adrienne Vesely, a former Big South Freshman of the Week honoree, won Gardner-Webb's first match of the day in the No. 6 position. The Plano, Texas native needed just two sets to defeat the Cougars' Sarah Zschunke. Vesley allowed Zschunke to win just one game in the opening set before winning the match thanks to a 6-3 victory in set two.
Valentine Limauge won her fifth match of the 2019 season with a come-from-behind win over Lily LaBiche in the No. 3 flight. After falling in set one, Limauge won the second set, 6-3, and was victorious in a super tiebreaker, 10-5, to win the Runnin' Bulldogs' second match of the afternoon.
Despite the wins from Vesely and Limauge, Gardner-Webb fell to 2-5 overall. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-4 in non-conference action. College of Charleston improved to 7-5 with its fourth straight victory.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, March 13 for their home opener. The 'Dogs will welcome the Wofford Terriers to Boiling Springs for a 2 p.m. match before hosting Campbell on Friday, March 15 (2 p.m.) for their third Big South contest.
