BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head Coach
Jim Corn's Runnin' Bulldogs were victorious for the second time this week with a 5-2 win over conference foe Campbell to improve to 2-1 in Big South play.
Gardner-Webb (4-5, 2-1 Big South Conference) dropped the doubles point to fall behind early, but won five of six singles matches to earn the convincing win over the Fighting Camels of Campbell.
Campbell (8-9, 2-3 BSC) could not carry the momentum into singles play. Gardner-Webb took a 2-1 lead after the first two singles contests as
Miljana Ristic won at No. 1 ] and
Adrienne Vesely won in the No. 6 flight. Ristic allowed her opponent to win just four games with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, while Vesley cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win.
The Fighting Camels tied the match with a victory in the No. 5 position, but the Runnin' Bulldogs reeled off three straight wins for the match victory. At No. 3,
Valentine Limauge cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win and leads all Runnin' Bulldogs with a 6-3 overall record.
Following Limague,
Mayumi Saguchi earned the win at No. 4. She improved to 4-2 overall with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Alexandra Nicoara. To close out the match,
Daniela Naupari was victorious at No. 2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The 'Dogs will now hit the road for a pair of Big South Conference matches. First up, Gardner-Webb will travel to rival Winthrop for a 2 p.m. match on Wednesday, March 20 before traveling to BSC newcomer Hampton on Saturday, March 23 for an 11 a.m. first serve
