Runnin' Bulldogs Roll To 21-5 Lacrosse Win Over Howard On Senior Day

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb scored 13 unanswered goals to break open Sunday's Senior Day game vs. Howard and rolled to a 21-5 win in Ernest W. Spangler Stadium.

After the Runnin' Bulldogs (4-4) took a 2-0 lead quickly, Howard (0-3) rallied to tie the score with 25:47 left before halftime on a Bernadette Nwoye tally.

Senior Abby Hanscom turned the tide, scoring on three-straight chances – two on free position shots – to spark what would grow to a 13-0 run to end the half.

Jessica Vetter and Liz Antoshak each scored goals early in the second half to push Gardner-Webb's lead to 17-2 and the rout was on. The Bison scored three in a row midway through the half, but Gardner-Webb capped the game with a 4-0 run for the final margin.

Gardner-Webb held a 29-17 shooting edge (20-5 in first half) and took advantage of 19 Howard turnovers. The 'Dogs also held a 16-11 lead in ground balls.

Hanscom was the story of the day individually, scoring five goals and dishing off a pair of assists in the win. Jada Preston and Eilish Gately added three goals, with Preston adding three assists. Senior Catherine Fox had two goals and four assists and Em Dyment scored two goals.

Eleven Runnin' Bulldogs scored goals in the game.

Howard was led by Jillian Jones, who had two goals and an assist.
