Top Finishes Highlight GWU's Weekend at 2019 VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Gardner-Webb had four top-five finishes and set a handful of new personal records at the Runnin' Bulldogs took part in the 2019 VertKlasse Meeting at High Point, N.C.
 
Natasha Akbarizadeh took home a fourth-place finish in the women's hammer with a mark of 59.88 meters.  Petra Jakeljic finished 6th a toss of 56.15 meters.  Cailen Blaie finished 18th at 44.80 meters, and Taliyah Wade placed 26th at 41.09 meters.
 
Kenny VanVorst finished fifth in the men's hammer with a mark of 52.73 meters, setting a new personal record.  Nate Wonsley IV finished 18th at 39.39 meters, and Julian Smallwood finished 19th at 37.76 meters.
 
In the men's 400-meter run, Chase Thornhill timed in at 47.69 to take home a fifth-place finish.  Carlos Williams finished 11th overall with a time of 50.06 seconds, and Casey Armour II placed 25th at 52.47 seconds.  Ezekiel Martin finished 35th with a time of 53.54 seconds.
 
Louise Schmidtgen placed fifth in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.46 meters.
 
In the men's triple jump, Austin Evans earned a fifth-place result with a mark of 13.51 meters.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Carlos Williams, Patrick Satre, Casey Armour II, and Chase Thornhill
 
In the women's shot put, Taliyah Wade finished seventh with a toss of 12.23 meters.
 
Julian Smallwood placed eighth in the men's shot put with a distance of 15.92 meters, setting a new personal record..  Kenny VanVorst finished 23rd with a mark of 12.23 meters.
 
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Khalilah Conway, Hannah Sparacio, Hannah Jones, and Diviana Forrest finished 11th with a time of 4:06.90.
 
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Khalilah Conway earned a 12th place finish with a time of 1:05.28.  Hannah Sparacio finished 25th with a time of 1:08.56.
 
Patrick Sastre finished 13th in the men's 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:56.05.
 
Cailen Blaire placed 19th in the women's discus with a mark of 35.81 meters.  Taliyah Wade finished 32nd at 30.65 meters.
 
Khalilah Conway finished 19th in the women's 100-meter hurdles, timing in at 15.27 seconds.
 
In the women's 400-meter run, Diviana Forrest placed 20th with a time of 59.05 seconds.
 
Julian Smallwood placed 20th in the men's discus with a mark of 37.10 meters.
 
Austin Buzzard finished 21st in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.91 meters.
 
Amy Turlington clocked in at 2:25.95 in the women's 800-meter run, finishing 26th.
 
In the men's 100-meter dash, Mason Marshall placed 27th with a time of 11.39 seconds.
 
In the women's 100-meter dash, Kira Ramsey clocked in at 13.02 seconds to finish 40th.
 
In the women's 1,500-meter run, Sandra Bolstad finished 43rd with a time of 5:15.37.  Hannah Jones finished 53rd at 5:27.56, Logan McGuirt placed 58th at a personal-best 5:35.37, Faith Parandhamia finished 61st at 5:39.39, and Courtney Kanetzke finished 71st at 5:49.61
 
Tre Carson placed 43rd in the men's 200-meter dash, timing in at 23.53 seconds.
 
In the 1,500-meter run, Mitchell Brown placed 63rd with a time of 4:34.92.  Sam Hermanns finished 69th at a personal-best 4:50.20, and Bogdan Podgaisky placed 72nd at 5:02.82.
 
Maya Mallory finished 71st in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 28.51 seconds.  Kelsey Houser followed in 75th at 29.15 seconds.
 
Gardner-Webb returns to action next weekend at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
