Women's Golf Rallies For Second Place At 2019 French Broad Collegiate Invitational

ARDEN, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf rallied with a team score of 302 Tuesday to pull into a tie for second place at the 2019 French Broad Collegiate Invitational, hosted by UNC Asheville.
The two-day tournament was played on the Cliffs at Walnut Cove course.
Gardner-Webb had the lowest round of the day – and the tournament – on Tuesday, tying Wofford for second place. The Terriers entered the final round with a four stroke lead on the 11-team field.
Appalachian State (306-305-611) won the tournament by just two strokes over Gardner-Webb and Wofford. GWU finished five shots in front of USC Upstate.
Allison Chandler (74-73-147) was consistent throughout her 36 holes, finishing in fourth individually. She was followed closely by teammate Lindsay Koppel (77-72-149), who carded the team's lowest individual round of the tournament on Tuesday to finish in a tie for sixth.
Linnea Hofgren (75-80-155) also posted a top-20 finish, tying for 16th individually. Kristen Wong (85-77-162) and Morgan Laird (87-88-175) also saw action for Gardner-Webb in the tournament.
Chandler was at her best on par 4 holes, shooting 1-under par for the tournament (3.94 average) – which ranked second among all golfers. She also ranked third in par 3 scoring (3.10 average) and was second among all golfers with a team-high five birdies.
The course proved difficult overall for the two days, with an average score of 80.39 for the tournament.
Up next is Gardner-Webb's final tune up of the regular season, as they head to Morganton, N.C., for the 2019 Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on April 7-8. The Big South Conference Championship awaits on April 11-14 in Ninety Six, S.C.
