Runnin' Bulldogs Defeat Lancers, Lock Up #3 Seed for Big South Tournament

Boiling Springs, N.C. – On a rainy Saturday afternoon in Boiling Springs, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team played some of their best tennis and defeated the Longwood Lancers, 4-0, to lock up the No. 3 seed for the Big South tournament.
 
Gardner-Webb (10-8, 6-3 Big South Conference) clinched the doubles points with victories on courts one and three. The Runnin' Bulldog duo of Daniela Naupari and Miljana Ristic defeated Longwood's Crystal Newzi and Emma Nurgazieva, 6-1. At No. 3, Milica Panic and Adrienne Vesely narrowly got by Anika Tylek and Jamie Breunig, 7-5, to give Gardner-Webb the 1-0 lead.
 
Longwood (12-9, 2-7 Big South) dropped all three singles matches as the Runnin' Bulldogs swept the Lancers. At No. 6, Manon Delsol ended the regular season on a three-match winning streak with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Tylek. Delsol outscored her opponents, 36-10, over in her last three victories.
 
On court two, Naupari picked up her fifth Big South win of the year with a defeat of Breunig, 7-5, 6-2, which put Gardner-Webb just one win away from the victory. After Naupari finished, Mayumi Saguchi clinched a win for the 'Dogs for the second time this week.
 
On Wednesday, Saguchi earned a three-set win over Presbyterian's Beth Taylor, forcing Taylor to retire after three sets in the third set. Today, she needed just two sets to defeat Nurgazieva and help the Runnin' Bulldogs pick up win number 10 on the year and earn the three-seed for the conference tournament.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs will wait for official tournament seeds from the Big South Conference. The tournament will begin on Tuesday with a pair of games. The quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on Wednesday and Thursday respectively with the championship match set for Friday at 12 p.m. Radford University will host the tournament, and the winner will earn the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
