BOILING SPRINGS – Defending Big South Conference champion Gardner-Webb announced its 2019-2020 non-conference men's basketball schedule Friday.
Â
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play 12 games out of conference, with seven true road games, three home games and two neutral site affairs.
Â
The season begins at home on Tuesday, November 5, as Southern Conference contender Furman rolls into Paul Porter Arena for a 7:00 pm tip. The 2019 Big South Conference Championship banner will be unfurled prior to the game – a rematch of a dazzling overtime battle last November in Greenville.
Â
"This is a challenging non-conference schedule that provides us with significant opportunity as a basketball team," said head coach Tim Craft, who enters his seventh season in charge. "Four of the teams on the schedule were ranked in the top-25 nationally last season and three made the NCAA Tournament in March. We look forward to growing as a team during the pre-conference part of our season."
Â
In addition to the home opener vs. Furman, Gardner-Webb will host Coker (December 3) and Bob Jones (December 19).
Â
A challenging road swing begins on Saturday, November 9 with a noon tip at Western Carolina. The Runnin' Bulldogs then travel to North Carolina (Nov. 15 and begin the stateside segment of the 2019 Cancun Challenge on Nov. 19th at Wichita State.
Â
GWU travels to South Carolina (Nov. 22), before heading to Mexico to battle UT-Martin (Nov. 26). A second game in Cancun follows against either Boston University or Northern Colorado (Nov. 27), before a return to the Carolinas to host Coker (December 3) and face defending SoCon champion Wofford (Dec. 7) in Spartanburg.
Â
A road trip to complete a home-and-home series at Kennesaw State (Dec. 13) is followed by a repeat trip to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech (Dec. 15).
Â
The Big South Conference is set to release the league schedule next week.
