BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis squad played its home opener and first matchup of the 2020 spring season against the College of Charleston on Friday afternoon.
The 'Dogs fell to the Cougars by a 5-2 score, getting singles wins from
Miljana Ristic and
Mayumi Saguchi.
"I'm proud of our girls and the way they played tonight" Coach Corn said after the match. "We never like to lose be we learned a lot that we can use going forward into the season."
To start today's matchup, Charleston swept all three doubles matches to earn a point and take an early 1-0 lead.
The two matches were won by Gardner-Webb in the singles category. After losing her first set (4-6) Ristic won the second 7-5, and then 10-8. Saguchi won both of her sets in a 6-0 shutout.
Gardner-Webb is back in action next Friday, January 24
th. The 'Dogs will take on North Carolina Central at 2:00 pm on the GWU Tennis Courts.
