BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb picked up wins at 133, 174 and 184 pounds but couldn't overtake The Citadel, as they took the match 31-14 in Southern Conference wrestling action Thursday evening inside Paul Porter Arena.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs fall to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in SoCon action, while The Citadel improves to 3-3 in dual matches and 2-2 in SoCon bouts.
 
Gardner-Webb took a loss at 125 pounds to open the evening, but Trevon Majette put the 'Dogs right back in it, winning by fall in an unbelievably quick 38 seconds at 133 pounds, capturing Gardner-Webb an automatic six points.
 
The Citadel picked up the next four wins to increase their lead to 19-5.
 
Evan Schenk was able to swing the momentum back in GWU's favor as he picked up a win by major decision with a score of 14-6 against Cole Burke at 174 pounds.
 
Samuel Mora earned Gardner-Webb's second win by fall on the evening as he defeated Cooper Youngblood in 2:00 at 184 pounds to bring GWU within five points of the Citadel, 19-14.
 
Two straight wins for the 'Dogs wouldn't be enough for the win as The Citadel's Martin Duane and Michael McAleavey won by fall for 197 and 285 respectively to seal the overall match win for the visiting Bulldogs.
 
Gardner-Webb will have a quick turnaround, hosting Campbell tomorrow night at 7:00 pm inside Paul Porter Arena with live coverage on ESPN+.
