Runnin’ Bulldogs Drop SoCon Opener to Appalachian State, 40-9, Thursday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb picked up wins at 133 and 165 pounds, but the Runnin' Bulldogs would fall to Appalachian State by a 40-9 score in the Southern Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night inside Paul Porter Arena.

Gardner-Webb (1-4, 0-1 SoCon) fell behind early, as the Mountaineers (2-2, 1-0 SoCon) took the opening bout at 157 pounds by fall to take an early 6-0 lead.

RJ Mosley put the Runnin' Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the following bout at 165 pounds, earning a 9-4 decision over William Formato to set the score at 6-3.

Appalachian State followed with five straight wins, including a pair of pins to build an unsurmountable lead.

Gardner-Webb earned a win by pin at 133 pounds, as newcomer Trevon Majette made quick work of Codi Russell, putting the defending SoCon champion's shoulders to the mat in 57 seconds.

Action wrapped up as Appalachian State took a decision at 141 pounds and a forfeit at 149 pounds.
