Gardner-Webb Opens Home Slate Friday At Noon Against VMI

Gardner-Webb opens its home slate on Friday at high noon, hosting a red-hot VMI (5-2) team in Paul Porter Arena. The non-conference game will stream live on ESPN+ (subscription) with Fabian Fuentes and former Penn State head coach Jerry Dunn on the call.
Fans are not allowed to attend the game, which is closed to the public due to COVID-19.
NOTES
• Gardner-Webb played 10 men in its season opener, with six of those seeing their first action as a Runnin' Bulldog. GWU played
11 men at Pittsburgh and put 10 men in the rotation again at East Tennessee State.
• Tim Craft is the third coach in Gardner-Webb history to reach 100 career wins in six seasons. The Tallahassee, Fla., native
joined Hall of Famers Eddie Holbrook (141) and Jim Wiles (103) on that list when GWU rallied for an 87-74 overtime win
against Hampton on January 19, 2019 in Paul Porter Arena.
• Under Craft, the Runnin' Bulldogs have not endured a losing season in Big South Conference play in his seven seasons. Craft
is 71-51 in the Big South, reaching at least 10 wins in six of his seven seasons so far.
• Gardner-Webb has seen five games postponed and two cancelled since November 25. Three of the five postponements have
already been rescheduled. GWU is still awaiting dates for its two-game Presbyterian series to be reset.
• After topping 50% from the floor in six-straight regular season games, Gardner-Webb has shot below 40% in each of its last
two contests.
• Gardner-Webb has limited each of its last two opponents to less than 38% shooting from the floor.
• Freshman guard D'Maurian Williams came off the bench to score a season-high 17 points in 23 minutes at ETSU. The
Phoenix, Ariz., sharpshooter drained 4-of-8 shots from downtown. Williams won a prep school national title last season at
Putnam Science (Conn.) Academy.
• Jaheam Cornwall ranked No. 6 nationally in three-point accuracy last season, shooting 44.4 percent on 196 chances (87-of-196) and is a career 42.6 percent shooter from long range for his career. He has
made just 33.3 percent this season (6-of-18) in three starts.
• Head coach Tim Craft and his staff have a class of nine newcomers on board for the 2020-2021 season, the largest class
assembled during his time in charge at Gardner-Webb. Four of the newcomers are true freshmen, three more are redshirt
freshmen who sat out last season and two are junior college transfers. One of the true freshmen, Tyrone Simos-Primerano
won't arrive on campus until January from Australia due to COVID-19 international travel restrictions.
• Lance Terry made the most of his first career start at Western Kentucky, draining 5-of-6 shots from long range en route to a
career-high 15 points. The Newnan, Ga., native played in 15 games last season as a freshman before missing the remainder of
the season with an injury. Terry was an AAU teammate of NBA top pick Anthony Edwards with the Atlanta Express on the Under
Armour circuit before signing with the Runnin' Bulldogs.
• Standout sophomore Kareem Reid was tabbed as a preseason All-Big South choice in October. He is the highest-rated
recruit to sign with Gardner-Webb during the recruiting service era (since 2000), ranking as a top-75 national prospect as a
junior at Putnam Science (Conn.) Academy. Reid averaged 6.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game in just
15.7 minutes per game last season. He nearly pulled off a triple-double vs. Hampton, scoring 10 points to go with eight
rebounds and a career-high eight blocked shots. Blessed with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Reid was solid in his season debut
at WKU, going for 11 points, six rebounds and four blocks in a career-best 28 minutes played.
