RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore
Lauren Bevis scored a career-best 26 points, but the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team fell by a score of 85-73 at Richmond on Friday evening.
Gardner-Webb (0-3) shot at a 34.2 percent clip (27-of-79) on the night, including just 3-of-21 (14.3 percent) from beyond the arc. Richmond (2-1) made a robust 59.6 percent of its attempts (34-of-57), which included 11-of-23 from long distance (47.8 percent).
The Runnin' Bulldogs outpaced the Spiders on the boards, 43-39, and forced Richmond to make 26 turnovers while only having 13 miscues on the night.
Bevis led all scorers with 26 points on the night to set a new career high. She was 7-of-17 from the floor, including 3-of-8 from three-point range. Bevis also was 9-of-11 from the free throw line and had three steals and two assists.
Jhessyka Williams followed with 18 points on a 7-of-14 outing, and
Alasia Smith added 13 points and 13 rebounds to record the first double-double of her collegiate career.
Kate Klimkiewicz led Richmond offensively with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including four made three-pointers.
