Gardner-Webb Cruises to a Victory over Akron on Sunday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb cruised to an 18-5 victory over the Akron Zips on Sunday afternoon behind Lauren Deaver's six points.

The Runnin' Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game at the 28:51 mark in the first half. The team proceeded to score three more goals over the next 13:48, jumping out to a 4-0, with there being a different player to score each goal.

After an Akron goal with 13:37 left in the first half, Gardner-Webb closed out the half with another 5-0 run. The last four goals of the run were scored within the last 1:44 of the half. Of these four goals, Lauren Deaver scored on one of the goals while assisting on the other three scored during the time.

Gardner-Webb's defensive pressure was able to hold Akron to an impressive 50% clear conversion percentage, going 8-16 on their attempts.

For Gardner-Webb, in the first half,  they went 4-7 on their clears. The second half saw a lot of improvement in this category as they converted on 7-8 of their attempts.

The Runnin' Bulldogs were able to have a +9-ground ball advantage, beating them 28-19. Eilish Gately accounted for five of them on the day.

There were twelve different goal scorers for the team with Jada Preston leading the team with three goals. Megan Trout, Talen Francis, Jessica Vetter, and Hannah Mitchell all scored two. Lauren Deaver, Eilish Gately, Liz Antoshak, Ciarra Ashworth, Tori Birks, Jayla Middlebrooks, and Hailey Maranto scored one each.

Of the eighteen made shots for the Runnin' Bulldogs, eleven of these were assisted on. Lauren Deaver led the team with five assists on the day. Jada Preston and Gabby Zerna each had two, with Liz Antoshak and Eilish Gately assisting on one apiece.

With the win today, head coach Jessie Aguglia becomes the winningest head coach in Gardner-Webb women's lacrosse history.

Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is an away game at Kennesaw State on February 22nd with a first draw time scheduled for noon.
