BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb rallied from an early 9-0 deficit Sunday afternoon, winning five consecutive matches to bolster what grew to a 25-12 win over Davidson on Senior Day in Paul Porter Arena.
After Davidson scored a forfeit at 157, the Wildcats led 9-0 after the second match of the day, as the two teams started competition at 149 pounds.
R.J. Mosley wasted little time helping his squad catch up, dominating action in an 8-1 decision over Noah Satterfield at 165 pounds.
Evan Schenk scored an 8-4 decision at 174 to follow suit and
Samuel Mora put together a strong effort at 184 pounds – beating Gavin Henry for an 11-2 major decision that put Gardner-Webb in front 10-9.
It was a lead the 'Dogs would not relinquish.
Jacob Reames stepped onto the mat at 197 pounds and Davidson forfeited the match to put GWU up 16-9.
Roderick Davis followed with a gutsy 11-6 decision at 285, despite giving up at least 40 pounds to his competitor.
Davidson rebounded with a win at 125 to keep the door open, but
Trevon Majette out-hustled Kyle Gorant for a late 3-1 decision at 133 pounds to seal the win.
With Gardner-Webb holding an insurmountable 22-12 lead,
Brandon Bright capped the win in style with an 8-3 decision at 141 pounds – taking a quick 5-1 lead in the first period and cruising to the final win of the day.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will head to Ohio next weekend for a pair of dual matches on Sunday, February 23. The 'Dogs will battle Ohio University and Buffalo in Athens, Ohio, that day.
