KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb men's swimming team placed second overall, while the women's team placed seventh as action wrapped up at the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships, taking place at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Incarnate Word took home the men's title, while Liberty claimed the women's championship.
On the day, Gardner-Webb added four more All-Conference finishes, along with one new school record to its performance throughout the four-day meet.
In the men's 1,650-yard freestyle,
Will Anderson brought home a seventh-place result with a time of 16:06.96.
Spencer Lucas timed in at 2:02.19 in the B-Final of the women's 200-yard backstroke to finish 11th overall.
Delaney Willette followed in 12th place with a time of 2:03.10. In the C-Final,
Laura Wakeley clocked in at 2:06.60 to finish 23rd overall.
In the men's 200-yard backstroke,
Tim Bennett took fourth place with a time of 1:48.81, and fellow teammate
Bryan Dunne placed seventh with a time of 1:51.49.
Michael Robinson touched the wall at 1:50.36 in the B-Final to finish tenth overall.
Zach Dingfield led GWU in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a second-place result, timing in at 44.41 seconds.
Seggio Bernardina finished fourth with a time of 44.85 seconds and
Dowdy Sarvis clamed seventh overall with a time of 45.52 seconds. In the B-Final,
Ethan Long clocked in at 45.54 seconds to finish tenth overall
In the women's 200-yard breaststroke,
Marguerite Sesti timed in at 2:27.03 in the C-Final to place 21st overall.
Jordan Mintz brought home a second-place result in the men's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:58:59, setting a new GWU record.
Justin Conklin finished in sixth place with a time of 2:01.65. In the B-Final,
Jonathan Frye finished tenth with a time of 2:03.32.
Mary Traylor placed third in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.69
In the men's 200 Yard Butterfly,
Cullen Fields claimed fourth place with a time of 1:47.85, and
Chase Mattingly took sixth place with a time of 1:48.33. In the B-Final,
John O'Connell timed in at 1:52.11 to place 11th overall, followed by
Steven LaFlamme in 12th with a time of 1:52.33.
The women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Jessi Snover,
Alyssa Church,
Audrey Robinson, and
Kayla Smith placed fifth overall with a time of 3:27.47.
In the men's 400-yard medley relay, the squad of
Seggio Bernardina,
Tim Bennett,
Brady Fields, and
Zach Dingfield placed second overall with a time of 2:59.36.
