BOILING SPRINGS N.C. – The Runnin' Bulldogs claimed four singles matches, battling back to defeat visiting UNCG by a 4-3 score on Thursday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
Gardner-Webb improves to 4-3 overall while UNCG drops to 1-7 on the year.
GWU fell behind early with the Spartans taking the doubles point. The duo of
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari defeated Erika Barquero and Ariana Chan, 6-3, at court one, but UNCG took matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the early advantage.
The Runnin' Bulldogs battled back at the onset of singles play, with
Teodora Ristic making quick work of Hanna Giddings, 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 4 position, followed by a straight set win by
Manon Delsol, 6-1, 6-3, over Chan on court six to take a 2-1 lead.
UNCG tied the overall score at 2-2 with Barquero narrowly defeating
Miljana Ristic, 7-5, 7-5, at the No. 1 position.
Gardner-Webb reclaimed the lead after
Mayumi Saguchi edged out Brianna Gomez, 6-4, 7-6(4) at court three, remaining undefeated in singles play with 6-0 record on the year. GWU would clinch the overall match win at court five with Valentine Limuage rallying to defeat Eugenia Camacho, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.
Action wrapped up at the No. 2 spot where Naupari fell to Sophia Adams, 7-5, 4-6, 4-6
Gardner-Webb steps back into Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon, hosting Radford at 2:00 pm at the Webb Tennis Complex.
