BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Softball (23-5) lost to Duke in both doubleheader games on Sunday afternoon in the last day of action at the Duke University Softball Tournament.
Game One: Gardner-Webb 1, Duke 4
From the circle,
Brooke Perry (4-2) took her second loss of the season.
Duke took an early lead in the first inning by scoring two runs from Lange and Davis, 2-0 Duke.
Scoring again in the third, Duke scored again to make it 3-0.
In the fourth inning during the Runnin' Bulldogs at bat,
Autumn Owen hit a homerun over center field to try and close the gap, 3-1 Duke.
In the top of the fourth during the Blue Devils at bat Salinas scored the final winning run of the game to make it 4-1, Duke.
Game Two: Gardner-Webb 2, Duke 10
From the circle for game two,
Andrea Lyon (8-1) took her first loss of the season.
Early in the Game Duke scored a total of 5 runs to take the lead before going into a scoreless fourth inning.
In the top of fifth during Gardner-Webb's at bat, Adam and Nicholson scored to make it 6-2 with Duke still in the lead.
To seal the early win for Duke, they scored four more runs during their at bat in the fifth with the final score 10-2 Duke.
Gardner-Webb Softball will be back in action March 11
th on the road as they take on Big South opponent Campbell in doubleheader action at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
