COLUMBIA, S.C – Gardner-Webb Swimming took a short trip up the road to face off against the Gamecocks of South Carolina on Thursday afternoon at the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, South Carolina.
The GWU Men took a drop to the Gamecocks 171 – 90, and the Women's team lost to South Carolina 185 – 74.
In the first event of the day, the Women's squad of
Kayla Smith,
Sydney Hall,
Paris Binard, and
Audrey Robinson took home fourth place in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:45.90 at the wall.
The Men started the day off strong in the 200 Medley Relay, as the quartet of
Brady Fields,
Jonathan Frye,
Tim Bennett, and
Seggio Bernardina took home a big second place finish for the Dog's with a time of 1:30.01 at the finish.
Ellie Eckert put points on the board for Gardner-Webb by placing third in the Women's 1,650 Free, with a finishing time of 18:19.18.
As for the Men's 1,650 Free,
Brady Vann took home a second-place finish for GWU with a finishing touch of 16:05.30. Teammate
Garrett Despres placed third with a time of 16:15.91, and
Sam Goldey placed fourth with a time of 16:18.85.
In the Women's 200 Yard Free,
Jessi Snover took home third place for Gardner-Webb with a time of 1:52.79 at the finish.
Alyssa Church followed closely behind to scoop up fifth place for the Dogs, by going a time of 1:54.11.
Christian Jann placed fourth in the Men's 200 Free by swimming a time of 1:42.11 for the Dogs', and
Drew Mintz finished fifth in the event by clocking in with a time of 1:42.55.
As for the Women's 100 Back,
Kayla Smith took home a nice second place finish for Gardner-Webb with a finishing time of 57.55. Teammate
Delaney Willette placed fourth in the event with a time of 58.59.
Tim Bennett took home a huge win for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Men's 100 Yard Back, beating out the Gamecocks to place first in the event with a smoking fast finishing time of 49.94.
Brady Fields earned points for the Dog's in the backstroke as well, taking home fourth place with a time of 50.35 at the finish.
For the Women's 100 Breast,
Sydney Hall placed third with a time of 1:07.07, with teammate
Abby Surley taking home fourth place with a finishing time of 1:07.29.
Jonathan Frye took home a big second place finish for Gardner-Webb Swimming in the Men's 100 Breast. Frye had a finishing time of 56.49 in the event.
As for the Women's 200 Fly,
Mary Traylor beat out the competition by four seconds to take home a ginormous first place win for the Dogs'. Traylor clocked a finishing time of 2:00.50 in the event.
Shortly after in the Men's 200 Fly,
Chase Mattingly collected another big win for the program by claiming first place with a time of 1:49.35 at the finish.
Audrey Robinson placed second for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Women's 50 Free, coming into the wall with a time of 23.76.
Brady Fields took home a fourth-place finish in the Men's 50 Free with a time of 21.04 at the wall.
In the Women's 100 Free,
Alyssa Church had a fourth-place finish for GWU, going a time of 52.67 in the event.
As for the Men's 100 Free,
Drew Mintz took home third place for Gardner-Webb by clocking in a time of 46.95 at the finish.
Delany Willette placed fourth for the Dogs' in the Women's 200 Back, finishing with a final time of 2:06.98.
On the Men's side for the 200 Back,
Landon Clark took home a third-place finish by punching in a time of 1:50.2.
In the Women's 200 Breast,
Sydney Hall placed fourth for GWU by going a time of 2:28.55 in the race.
Jonathan Frye placed second for the Runnin' Bulldog Men in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:03.67 in the event.
As for the Women's 500 Free,
Adrianna Barone took home third place for GWU with a finishing with a touch of 5:06.20 at the wall.
Sam Goldey placed third for Gardner-Webb in the Men's 500 Free, clocking in at the finish with a time of 4:43.51.
In the Women's 100 Fly,
Audrey Robinson took third for the Dogs' by punching in a final time of 57.69 at the finish.
Tim Bennett struck gold yet again for the Runnin' Bulldogs, this time in the Men's 100 Fly. Bennett took first by clocking in a smoking fast time of 49.24 at the finish.
As for the Women's 200 Individual Medley,
Mary Traylor took second place by finishing with a time of 2:05.12.
Following in similar fashion for the men,
Chase Mattingly finished second in the 200 Individual Medley, touching the wall with a time of 1:51.39.
The relay squad of
Audrey Robinson,
Kayla Smith,
Alyssa Church, and
Jessi Snover took home another big win for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the Women's 400 Free Relay. The squad claimed first place with final time of 3:29.97.
In the Men's 400 Free Relay, the squad of
Tim Bennett,
Drew Mintz,
Landon Clark, and
Brady Fields took home a third-place finish for GWU with a time of 3:06.20 at the finish line.
Gardner-Webb Swimming will be back in action on Saturday, January 30th in Atlanta, Ga., taking on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
