BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb picked up 16 wins on the day, earning extra points in nine, to seal a pair of dual wins against visiting Bellarmine and VMI in Southern Conference wrestling action Sunday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.
 
GWU defeated Bellarmine by a 38-6 score, followed by a 29-11 win over VMI.
 
The afternoon began against Belarmine, with action beginning at 125 pounds, in which Aedyn Concepcion gave the Runnin' Bulldogs an immediate 6-0 advantage over the Knights, pinning Brandon Lucas in 2:32.
 
GWU expanded its lead to 11-0 in the following bout, as Todd Carter picked up a 22-6 tech fall in 6:27 over Max Dansereau at 133 pounds.
 
Additional bonus points were earned at the 141-pound weight class, with Trevon Majette defeating Chase Yost by a 13-3 major decision, giving Gardner-Webb a 15-0 lead.
 
Bellarmine got on the scoreboard by picking up a win by decision at 149 pounds, but GWU answered in the following bout with Taylor Parks defeating Alex Rhine by fall in 4:51 to put the 'Dogs on top by a 21-3 margin.
 
RJ Mosley, who earned national rankings this past week, racked up another win at 165 pounds, taking a narrow 3-2 decision over Eric Beck to push GWU's lead over Bellarmine to 24-3.
 
The Knights earned a decision at 174 pounds, but Gardner-Webb would follow by taking the remaining three bouts of the dual.  Evan Shenk defeated Easton Tobia by a 22-7 tech fall to seal the overall win for the Runnin' Bulldogs at 184 pounds, while Jha'Quan Anderson earned an 8-6 decision over Gavin Grime at 197 pounds and Anthony Perrine pinned Charlie Cadell in just 1:19 in the heavyweight matchup to close the dual.
 
A handful of extra matches took place both prior and following the dual, which saw Joseph Mecham (Fall 5:20), Conrad Schiess (Fall 2:23), and Chase McKinney (Dec 11-4) earn wins over the Knights.
 
In the nightcap against VMI, Gardner-Webb once again jumped out to an early lead, with Concepcion picking up a 12-1 major decision over Cliff Conway at 125 pounds, Carter defeating Luke Fegly by a 9-5 decision at 133 pounds, and Majette earning a 14-7 decision over Freddy Junko to take a 10-0 lead.
 
The Keydets earned points at 149 pounds to trim GWU's lead to 10-5, but the 'Dogs would shut the door on any VMI comeback effort, claiming wins in each of the following four bouts to seal the overall match win.
 
Taylor Parks earned a hard fought 4-2 decision over Blake Showers at 157 pounds, followed by another tight win for Mosley, a 2-0 decision over Jon Hoover at 165 pounds.
 
Samuel Mora earned an 11-3 major decision over Joel Diaz at 174 pounds, and Jha'Quan Anderson gave GWU enough points to claim the dual, picking up a narrow 3-2 decision over Zach Brown that was decided in the final seconds.
 
The dual concluded with Perrine claiming his second win by fall of the day, this time in 1:41 over Solomon Harris at the heavyweight class.
 
Gardner-Webb hits the road Saturday, February 6^th, taking on both Davidson and Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C.
