Gardner-Webb Men's Golf Captures Seventh At 2021 Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Gardner-Webb moved into seventh place as a team Tuesday, wrapping up the 2021 Elon Phoenix Invitational at Alamance Country Club.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (285-283-283-851) finished one-under par for the event, finishing two strokes behind Temple and six strokes in front of Ohio University in the final team standings. Host Elon ran away with the team title on its home course.
Zack Byers had the hot hand on Tuesday, shooting a low round of 67 to move into the top-20 individually. Byers finished in a tie for 19th (71-73-67) and at 2-under for the tournament.
Jake Scruggs led the way for Gardner-Webb over 54 holes (68-67-71-206), finishing 7-under par to take seventh place. Scruggs was tied for second entering Tuesday's final round.
Jules Bondil (75-70-72-217) was six strokes behind Byers in 45th and Miles Albright (71-74-73-218) was one stroke off Bondil's pace in 47th.
Max White (75-73-76-224) finished in 63rd place.
Gardner-Webb will wrap up its 2021 fall campaign at the end of the month, traveling to Charleston for the Daniel Island (S.C.) Invitational (October 31-November 1).
