BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team took on conference foe UNC Asheville at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Wednesday night. The Runnin' Bulldogs emerged victorious in overtime over the visiting Bulldogs, 1-0.
"I'm very glad that we were able to get the win," said head coach
Tony Setzer. "It was a tough night against UNC Asheville, and we have to do better to achieve the final product."
The match was tied for 98 minutes, until
Aymane Sordo netted the game winner with two minutes to go in overtime. The game winning goal by Sordo was his first career goal for the Red & Black.
Gardner-Webb paced the night in shots with 10, UNC Asheville managed to only take three. Starters
Massimo Borlina and
Odal Brown took a pair of shots each.
A total of eight corner kicks were taken throughout the night, which were split evenly between the two teams. The Runnin' Bulldogs committed 20 fouls during the game, the visiting Bulldogs had 9 total.
Goalkeeper
Robby Spradlin helped to earn the shutout win for GWU, recording two saves and zero goals against.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Saturday, October 16
th, as they take on Longwood at Greene-Harbison Stadium. The match is slated to start at 3 pm and will stream on ESPN+.
