HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team took on High Point University in the Big South Championship Semifinals at Vert Stadium on Wednesday. The Panthers dominated the Runnin' Bulldogs with a final score of 5-0, High Point.
Throughout the night five different High Point Panthers managed to penetrate through the Runnin' Bulldogs backline, as the panthers scored three goals in the first half and the remaining two in the second half.
It was a fairly clean match for GWU, but
Samuel Catherall was given a yellow at the 71:14 mark of play.
The Panthers paced the match in shots with 15, while the Runnin' Bulldogs took four. Starters
Laurits Lillemose and
Abel Gebrekiros each took a single shot. The remaining two shots were taken off the bench by Hendrik Kortgodde and
Dylan Dominguez.
HPU had five corner kick opportunities in the match, GWU had just one less. The Runnin' Bulldogs led in fouls with 12, the Panthers had just two less.
Tonight's postseason loss wraps up the 2021 season and the 'Dogs finish with an overall record of 5-12-2 and 3-4-1 in Big South Play
