GREENVILLE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb women's basketball hit their stride late in the second period, Sophomore
Emma Capps hit a 3-pointer to Give the Runnin' Bulldogs what would be their largest lead of the game. Unable to hold on throughout the second half the Pirates managed to put up 31 points in the third period to take the win with a final score of 81-52, East Carolina.
Gardner-Webb (0-3) shot 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from field goal range, which included 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from 3-point range. Fifty of GWU's points tonight were scored in the paint. East Carolina (1-2) shot 47.0 percent (31-for-66) from the floor and 25.0 percent (3-for-12) from long range.
Lauren Bevis led the scoring efforts for Gardner-Webb, tonight totaled 13 points, making four field goals, three from beyond the arc, and made two at the free-throw line (100%). Bevis also grabbed three rebounds and had four assists.
The reigning Big South Co-Player of the Week,
Jhessyka Williams was second on the team tonight with 10 points. Williams made five field goals, had four rebounds, and recorded just as many assists.
McNeal led the Pirates by scoring 23 total points throughout the night, she shot 10-for-16 from field goal range and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to Gardner-Webb for their home opener inside Paul Porter Arena on Sunday, November 21, facing Southern Conference opponent Mercer University. The tip is slated for 2 pm and will stream on ESPN+.
