BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs faced off against SoCon foe Mercer University inside Paul Porter Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs ultimately fell to the Bears with a final score of 63-50, Mercer.
Gardner-Webb (0-4) shot 32.1 percent (18-for-56) in field goal range, 22.2 percent (4-for-18) from beyond the arc, and 55.6 percent (10-for-18) on the free-throw line. The 'Dogs scored 26 points in the paint, capitalized 15 points off of turnovers, and scored eight second-chance points.
Mercer (3-2) shot 49.1 percent (26-for-53) from the floor, but the Runnin' Bulldogs held the bears defensively from three-point range, only allowing four buckets from deep (57.1 percent).
Alasia Smith led the offensive front for GWU, as she shot 8-for-16 from field goal range, 1-for-3 from deep, and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Smith's 21point game matched her previous career-high from a year ago against Elon (Nov. 25th, 2020).
Jhessyka Williams scored in total points in today's game, shooting 4-for-7 in the paint, and 1-for-4 at the free-throw line.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the road later this week as they head down to the palmetto state to take part in the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic. Gardner-Webb will face East Tennesse State University on Friday, November 26 at 4:30 pm, and UNC Greensboro on Sunday, November 28 at 11 am.
