ELON, N.C. - Gardner-Webb women's basketball faced Elon University on Monday night in its final non-conference bout of the season. The Phoenix topped the Runnin' Bulldogs with a final score of 77-65.
Gardner-Webb (2-9) shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the floor, 23.1% (3-for-13) from beyond the arc, and 90.0% (18-for-20) at the free-throw line. GWU scored 32 points in the paint and 21 points off of turnovers.
Elon (8-2) shot 44.9% (31-for-69) from field-goal range, 27.3% (6-for-22) from deep, and 56.3% (9-for-16) at the free-throw line. The Phoenix took advantage of 79 total possessions and scored 23 points off of the bench and 44 points in the paint.
Sophomore
Alasia Smith led the 'Dogs with 19 points (8-13 FG, 1-1 3FG, 2-3 FT), nine rebounds (three offensive, six defensive), three blocks, and two steals.
Brie Perpignan led Elon with 18 points (7-16 FG, 1-5 3FG, 3-4 FT), 12 assists, six steals, and a single rebound.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Wednesday, December 29, as they open Big South play at High Point University at 7 p.m. The action will stream on ESPN+.
