BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team faced off against Sun Belt Conference foe Appalachian State on Sunday afternoon at Paul Porter Arena. In the fourth quarter, the Mountaineers went on a 12-2 scoring run to top the Runnin' Bulldogs with a final score of 73-63, in favor of App State.
The 'Dogs shot 40.4% (23-for-57) from the floor, 29.4% (5-for-17) from beyond the arc, and 75.0% (12-for-16) at the free-throw line. Gardner-Webb scored 20 points off of turnovers, scored 26 points in the paint, and 17 points came from off of the bench.
The Mountaineers shot 46.3% (25-for-54) from field-goal range, 26.3% (5-for-19) from three-point range, and 54.5% (18-for-33) from the free-throw line. App State scored 16 total second-chance points and 40 points in the paint.
Tonight's game was the third contest in a row that four players scored 10 or more points for the Runnin' Bulldogs offensive front.
Senior
Jhessyka Williams led the pack with 13 points (6-for-15 FG, 0-for-2 3PT, and 1-for-2 FT) and six rebounds. Junior
Ki'Ari Cain put up 12 points (4-for-11 FG, 2-for-4 3FG, and 2-for-2 FT), grabbed six rebounds, and notched a new career-high nine assists. Sophomore
Alasia Smith secured her second-double of the season and the fifth of her career, as she scored 11 points (3-for-7 FG, 5-for-8 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds in the game. Sophomore
Micahla Funderburk put up a career-high 11 points (3-for-4 FG, 3-for-4 3FG, 2-for-2 FT)
Appalachian State had three players score double figures in tonight's game, led by Emily Carver, who put up 19 points, two rebounds, and one assist off of the bench.
The 'Dogs will be back in action on Saturday, December 11th, as they head down to Statesboro, Georgia to face Georgia Southern. Tip time is set for 2 pm and the action will stream live on ESPN+.
