Cornwall Scores 20 Points To Lead Gardner-Webb To 69-57 Win At Radford

RADFORD, Va. – Jaheam Cornwall scored a game-high 20 points, including several clutch baskets late in the second half, to lead Gardner-Webb to a 69-57 win over Radford Wednesday night on the road.

The win for Gardner-Webb (9-14, 8-10 Big South) snapped a three-game losing streak – all away from home. In addition to another big night for Cornwall, Gardner-Webb got 18 points from Jacob Falko and 10 points, six rebounds and four blocks from freshman Jamaine Mann.

After falling behind 8-6 early, Gardner-Webb exploded for a 14-2 run to take control of the game for good. The Runnin' Bulldogs heated up from long range – keyed by Cornwall and Falko – and led by as many as 17 points before taking a 42-27 lead into the locker room.

Gardner-Webb kept its double digit margin safe for much of the second half, with the Highlanders (13-10, 12-5 Big South) able to trim the lead to as few as eight points with 5:30 to play.

Cornwall responded down the stretch, sinking a jumper with 5:02 left to push the lead back to 10. He answered Radford baskets with made shots of his own on each of the next three trips down the court – and finished the scoring with a driving layup with 1:25 left to play.

Gardner-Webb shot a strong 52.7 percent for the game (29-of-55), knocked down 9-of-20 shots from long distance (45.0 percent) and made both of its free throws. A late flurry of offensive rebounds kept Radford at bay, and Gardner-Webb held a 27-26 lead on the glass by the end of the game.

A testament to Gardner-Webb's overall performance, the visiting team led for nearly 37 of the game's 40 minutes (92.1 percent).

Radford got 11 points from Fah'Mir Ali and 10 points each from Lewis Djonkam and Xavier Lipscomb. Shaquan Jules netted nine points off the bench.

The Highlanders shot 41.9 percent for the game (18-of-43) and made 5-of-12 from deep. The Highlanders were high quality at the free throw line, making 16-of-20 chances (80.0 percent).
