Cornwall, Williams and Reid Earn Big South Postseason Men's Hoops Honors

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb's Jaheam Cornwall earned first-team All-Big South Conference honors Friday afternoon, while freshman D'Maurian Williams was named to the All-Freshman Team. Forward Kareem Reid was runner-up for 2021 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

All three men played their final prep seasons at national powerhouse Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut.

Cornwall (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Putnam Science Academy) averaged a career-high 14.3 points per game this regular season and was at his best down the stretch – posting an average of 20.5 points per game over Gardner-Webb's final four contests.

That included a 32-point explosion at Longwood – a career-high total – and a pair of 20-point outings in a road sweep of second-place Radford. Cornwall ranked among league and national leaders once again by shooting over 41 percent from long distance – and currently shoots 42.7 percent from three-point range for his career.

He has scored 1,204 career points entering the Big South Conference quarterfinals.

Williams (Phoenix, Ariz. / Putnam Science Academy) was invaluable as Gardner-Webb's sixth man for much of the season and eventually worked himself into the starting lineup. The high-scoring wing averaged 11.5 points per game against Big South competition and 10.7 points per game overall, which included a career-high 21 points vs. Charleston Southern and 19 points in the series finale win over Presbyterian.

Williams made 50 three-pointers as a freshman, which ranked among the league's best among his peers. His selection to the All-Freshman Team marks the fourth-straight season a Gardner-Webb rookie from Putnam Science has appeared on the squad – joining Cornwall (2018), Jose Perez (2019) and Reid (2020).

Reid (Queens, N.Y. / Putnam Science Academy) carries a 3.39 cumulative GPA in his major of Criminal Justice and remains one of the Big South's most impactful post players. The 6-foot-9 standout averaged 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and blocked 37 shots in 23 regular season starts.

Gardner-Webb, the league's No. 6 seed, plays at No. 3 Campbell Monday in the Hercules Tires Big South Men's Basketball quarterfinals. Tip is set for 7:00 pm in Buies Creek.
