BELMONT, N.C. – Gardner-Webb won a 6-1 decision over Belmont-Abbey on Saturday afternoon give the team their second victory of the season. The win stopped a three-match losing streak for the team.
Doubles action saw Gardner-Webb sweep all the matches. The day started with
Breno Plentz and
Stefano Puga winning 6-0 in the #2 position. In the #3 flight,
Sebastian Harris and
Connor Enslin 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.
Chrisjan Van Wyk and
Victor Putter won 7-6(4) in the #1 flight.
Gardner-Webb won five of the six singles matches of the day. Plentz won in the #3 position by a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Harris defeated Jhoan Avendano in the #5 match by another 6-0, 6-1 decision.
John Spring clinched the match in the #6 position beating Gonzalez by a 6-1, 6-4 decision. Van Wyk won in the #2 match 6-3, 6-4. Enslin pushed the overall score in the match to 6-0 after his victory in the #4 position. The score for the match was 6-4, 6-3. The day concluded with Belmont-Abbey's Stafford defeating Putter by a score of 6-0, 5-7, 6-10 in the #1 flight.
Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is a home match scheduled for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against College of Charleston.
