Raleigh, N.C. – Gardner-Webb (0-3) Softball dropped both games in doubleheader action against N.C. State (7-2) on Saturday afternoon. As the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to put points on the board in either game in Dail Softball Stadium.
Game One: 6-0, N.C. State
On the mound for the Dogs',
Andrea Lyon pitched five innings and had five strikeouts. The Wolfpack managed to get seven hits and six runs off of Lyon, causing her to take the loss.
Freshman
Sydney Gilbert was in action for the first time in her career for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Gilbert pitched just one inning in the game, and had one hit off of the three batters that faced her.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to score in the matchup, as the Wolfpack slammed three home runs with runners on the bases in the first and sixth inning to make it 6-0, N.C. State.
Game Two: 7-0, N.C. State
Brooke Perry took the loss for GWU pitching in the nightcap. In the four innings that Perry pitched she faced 20 batters, with the Wolfpack getting five hits and runs off of her. Perry had four strikeouts in the matchup as well.
Tristen Horrell saw two innings of pitching action for the Dog's. While not allowing any hits, Horrell landed a single strikeout for GWU.
In game two, N.C. State hit another trio of homeruns, while also scoring in the fourth and fifth innings to give Gardner-Webb softball their second loss of the day. As the final score was 7-0, N.C. State.
"I give the N.C. State pitchers credit for pitching well," said Head Coach
Tom Cole. "But the bottom line is we need to hit much better than we are. Defensively we're playing very solid, but if we can't score runs we can't win."
Gardner-Webb Softball will be back in action tomorrow February 28
th, as they take on N.C. State in the last game of their series at noon.
