Gardner-Webb Men's Hoops Begins Big South Tourney Play In Buies Creek Monday

THE GAME
Gardner-Webb begins its 2021 postseason on the road, traveling to face No. 3 seed Campbell at 7:00 pm in Buies Creek, N.C., for the Hercules Tires Big South Conference Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals. The game will stream live on ESPN3, with Chris Hemeyer and Jay Sonnhalter on the call from Gore Arena. Both teams enter the game on win streaks. Gardner-Webb has won three in a row and Campbell has tied a school record with seven wins in a row.

THE SERIES (Gardner-Webb leads 22-16)
Gardner-Webb holds a 22-16 edge in the all-time series over Campbell, which includes a split this season. The 'Dogs have won four of the past five matchups, including a Big South semifinals win on the road in Buies Creek in 2019. GWU is 4-0 against Campbell since joining the Big South in conference tournament games – including a 3-0 mark under current head coach Tim Craft (2015, 2016, 2019).

GARDNER-WEBB QUICK LOOK
*  Gardner-Webb's 25 games played this season ranks among the top-3 totals in NCAA Division I. GWU was one of only two Big
South Conference teams to play the full 20-game league slate.

*  Tim Craft is the third coach in Gardner-Webb history to reach 100 career wins in six seasons. The Tallahassee, Fla., native
joined Hall of Famers Eddie Holbrook  (141) and Jim Wiles (103) on that list when GWU rallied for an 87-74 overtime win
against Hampton on January 19, 2019 in Paul Porter Arena.

*  Under Craft, the Runnin' Bulldogs have not endured a losing season in Big South Conference play in his seven seasons. Craft
is 78-55 in the Big South, reaching at least 10 wins in seven of his eight seasons. Gardner-Webb won its final three games of
the regular season this year to reach 10-10 in Big South play.

*  Two Gardner-Webb freshman have seen their dunks featured on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 this season. Anthony
Selden's windmill on December 31 at Hampton made the list and Jamaine Mann's throwdown made the cut on January 24 and
again on February 18 at Radford. What did the first two have in common? Both came off of nifty assists from senior point guard
    Jaheam Cornwall.

*  All-Big South guard Jaheam Cornwall crossed the 1,000-point mark with a bucket on January 19 vs. UNC Asheville. The
Brooklyn, N.Y., now has 1,204 career points, 363 assists and 358 rebounds in 119 games played in Boiling Springs. He is
shooting 42.7 percent for his career from long distance (229-of-536) and has drained 75.0 percent from the free throw line.

*  Over his last five games, Cornwall has scored 90 points (18.0 ppg), connected on 53.2 percent from the floor overall and has
knocked home 56.0 percent of his three-point tries. He had a career-high 32 points in a loss at Longwood on  February 12 and
topped the 20-point mark in each of Gardner-Webb's road wins at Radford (February 18-19).

*  Head coach Tim Craft and his staff have a class of nine newcomers on board for the 2020-2021 season, the largest class
assembled during his time in charge at Gardner-Webb. Four of the newcomers are true freshmen, three more are redshirt
freshmen who sat out last season and two are junior college transfers. One of the true freshmen, Tyrone Simos-Primerano
didn't arrive on campus until late December from Australia due to COVID-19 international travel restrictions.

*  Six different newcomers have made at least one start this season for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

*   In its two-game sweep on the road at second-place Radford, Gardner-Webb got 21.0 ppg from Cornwall, 11.0 ppg from Jacob
Falko and 10.5 ppg from Jordan Sears. The 'Dogs shot 53.8 percent as a team during those two games and limited the
Highlanders to just 35.6 percent from the floor (53.0 ppg).

*  Kareem Reid, a preseason All-Big South choice down low, made 6-of-7 shots to tie a career-high with 13 points in the New
Year's Eve 80-69 win at Hampton. The Queens, N.Y., native matched that effort and pulled down 10 rebounds in a win over
Charleston Southern on January 24, and is averaging 8.7 points and shooting 64.0% per Big South victory so far in 2021.

*   Reid, who carries a 3.39 cumulative GPA in Criminal Justice, was named to the Big South's All-Academic Team on Friday.

*   Guard D'Maurian Williams' selection to the Big South's All-Freshman Team Friday marked the fourth consecutive season         that Gardner-Webb has put at least one player on the team. It also marks the fourth consecutive year that a Putnam Science
Academy product from Gardner-Webb has landed on the team: Jaheam Cornwall (2018), Jose Perez (2019) and Kareem
Reid (2020). Williams is currently averaging 10.7 points per game.
