RADFORD, Va.- Gardner-Webb opened the 2021 spring season by taking the first set, but would drop the following three to fall to Radford by a 3-1 score in Big South Conference volleyball action inside Radford's Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (0-1) rallied to take the first set, 27-25, but Radford (1-0) would claim the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-18.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 43 kills on 160 attemps for a .069 attacking percentage, while Radford collected 48 kills on 146 swings, hitting at a .116 clip.
Kylee Garrison paced the GWU attack with 11 kills, followed by
Madison Deslatte and
Alexandria Roycraft with eight each.
Tori Weatherley dished out a team-high 20 assists, followed by
Madi Riggs with 11.
Roycraft led the 'Dogs on the block with eight total blocks, followed by
Delaney McCullough with seven total stuffs.
Sophia Bolden totaled 17 digs to lead the team, followed by
Mikah McIntosh with 15.
Taylor O'Neal led Radford with 12 kills and 18 assists. Jordan Coomes collected 23 assists, while Kennedi Johnson led the Highlanders with six total blocks.
Both teams square off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm inside the Dedmon Center.
