BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Presbyterian defeated Gardner-Webb on Wednesday afternoon on a 4-3 decision for their first conference victory of the season. The decision extends the streak for the Runnin' Bulldogs of having all seven matches ending on 4-3 scores.
Presbyterian secured the doubles point to start the day, giving them the early edge in the day.
Valentine Limauge and
Manon Delsol lost in the #2 position 6-4.
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari fell in the #1 flight on a 6-3 decision to give Presbyterian the win. Doubles action ended with
Elin Hellberg and
Maria Jardim winning the #3 match 7-6(3), giving the team momentum heading into singles.
Delsol triumphed in the #4 flight with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory. Presbyterian's Jessica Leeman prevailed in the #3 position 6-4, 6-1 over Hellberg. In the #1 match, M. Ristic won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
All remaining singles matches needed three sets to determine its winner with the overall score at 2-2.
The first match to conclude was the #6 flight where
Courtney Fyvie lost 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Presbyterian clinched the victroy when Lucianna Piedra beat Limuage 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. The day ended with Naupari winning the #2 position with a 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-2.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action tomorrow, March 11th, for a home match against Longwood. The team will be looking for a win that can return them to an even record on the season and conference play.
