Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Gardner-Webb Sweeps Longwood on Thursday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Women's Tennis defeated Longwood 4-0 on Thursday afternoon to move to 2-2 in conference play.

Doubles action set the pace for the rest of the afternoon as the Runnin' Bulldogs won all doubles matches. In the #1 position, Miljana Ristic and Daniela Naupari swept the Lancers duo for a 6-0 win. Manon Delsol and Courtney Fyvie clinched the doubles point with their 6-3 victory in the #2 flight. This was the first time the two were partnered for a doubles match in a competition. A close battle in the #3 position ended with Maria Jardim and Elin Hellberg triumphing in a tiebreaker 7-6(8).

Little time was wasted between the matches as Hellberg won in a dominating 6-0, 6-2 matchup in the #3 flight. Fyvie followed that up a 6-0, 6-2 decision of her own in the #6 position. In the #5 match, Valentine Limauge clinched the victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Since the match was played until the clinch, everything else was left unfinished. Longwood's Maria Saez was leading in the #1 match over M. Ristic 6-4, 4-3 when it was called. In the #2 flight, Delsol lost the first set 6-7(2) but was leading 1-0 at its conclusion. The last match left unfinished was the #4 position with the Lancers' Adelaide Thuilot winning 7-6(2) over Jardim.

Coming into the day, the Runnin' Bulldogs were 1-7 in conference doubles matches, but the sweep from today improved them to 4-7 within the conference.

Gardner-Webb returns to action on March 18 to play North Dakota with a start scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
