BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb dropped its match on Saturday afternoon against Xavier by a 6-1 decision. This marked the first match the Runnin' Bulldogs have played since March 11.
The Musketeers stormed to early leads on courts 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point. Xavier won at the #2, 6-1, over
Valentine Limauge and
Manon Delsol. The Musketeers secured the point after a 6-2 win in the #3 position against
Maria Jardim and
Elin Hellberg. The Runnin' Bulldogs #1 duo of
Miljana Ristic and
Teodora Ristic prevailed on a 7-5 score to conclude doubles matches.
Xavier controlled much of the singles action as well, as they won five of the six matches. Kat Lyman defeated Hellberg 6-3, 6-3 in the #2 flight. Soon after, the #3 position ended with Xavier's Anna Roggenburk winning against T. Ristic 6-2, 6-2. Xavier's Imani Graham clinched the match victory on the #4 court, beating Jardim 6-1, 6-3.
Elise Semmartin lost in the #6 position 6-2, 6-2. This was followed by Xavier's top singles player prevailing over M. Ristic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the #1 flight.
The Runnin' Bulldogs collected their sole point of the day from Limauge's double tiebreaker win on the #5 court, 7-6(5), 3-6, 15-13.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on April 6 as they will travel to face Davidson with a start scheduled for 4:00 p.m. This match will end the Runnin' Bulldogs non-conference schedule for this season.
