BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Softball lost their series finale to Big South Conference opponent Longwood at Brinkley Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 9-2, Longwood.
Backstrom, pitching for Longwood only allowed five hits in 26 Runnin' Bulldog at-bats. Leading GWU,
Trinity Sterrett went 3-for-4 at the plate, while
Weslyn Almond (1-for-3) and
Leslie McNeil (1-for-2) each had one hit apiece.

Brooke Perry took her sixth loss of the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Perry worked a total of six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs. Allowing five walks, Perry fanned a total of 7 batters.
All tied up in the bottom of the third inning, Almond scored on a passed ball by Longwoods catcher, allowing the Runnin' Bulldogs to take a 2-1 lead.
Action went silent until the Lancers of Longwood put a combined total of eight runs on the board in the sixth and seventh innings, which was fueled by a pair double RBI home runs from Lauren Taylor and Sydney Jacobsen.
Longwood collected a total of ten hits in the matchup, with Lauren fox having 2-for-4, and Alexis Wayland going 2-for-5 at the plate.
Gardner-Webb Softball will be back in action on Tuesday, March 23
rd, traveling to Rock Hill to take on Winthrop in doubleheader action. The start times are slated for 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
