Runnin’ Bulldogs Sweep Charleston Southern Friday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb posted a season-high .212 attacking percentage in route to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Charleston Southern in Big South Conference volleyball action inside Paul Porter Arena on Friday afternoon.
 
Gardner-Webb (4-9, 4-9 Big South) swept Charleston Southern (7-4, 7-4 Big South) by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs were efficient throughout the day, totaling 41 kills on 104 swings with 19 errors for a season-best .212 attacking percentage.  The Buccaneers totaled 34 kills on 94 attempts with 16 errors for a .191 attacking percentage.
 
Kylee Garrison led the GWU attack with 11 smashes on 27 swings, hitting at a .111 clip.  Hannah Donaldson followed with nine kills on 16 attacks for a .500 attacking percentage.  Lauryn Rocassin hit at a .333 rate, totaling seven kills on 15 swings.
 
Tori Weatherley led the 'Dogs with 18 assists, followed closely by Rocassin with 16 helps.
 
Mikah McIntosh had a team-high 11 digs for GWU, while Alexandria Roycraft led the team on the block with two solo blocks and five block assists.
 
Charleston Southern was led on the attack by Peyton Thompson with 12 kills on 32 attempts.  Emma Minnick dished out a match-high 27 assists.
 
Ashleigh Holweger led the Bucs with 10 digs, while Thompson had three total blocks to lead that effort.
 
Friday's win was the first three-set conference win for the Runnin' Bulldogs since a 3-0 win at Presbyterian on October 29, 2016.  It also marked the fourth league win of the year for GWU, the most since taking five matchups in 2014.
 
Both teams square off again tomorrow at 4:00 pm inside Paul Porter Arena in the final home match of the season for Gardner-Webb.  Following the match, the senior class of Madi Riggs and Alexandria Roycraft will be recognized.
