BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Softball dropped both ends of doubleheader action to Radford on Saturday afternoon at Brinkley Stadium, falling 1-3 in game one and 1-9 in game two.
GAME ONE: Gardner-Webb 1, Radford 3
The Runnin' Bulldogs took the lead late in the game during the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs on the board
Ramsey Schlafer singled and advanced to second on the throw, and then was able to come home from an RBI single hit by
Leslie McNeil, making it a 1-0 game.
In the top of the fifth and sixth innings combined, Radford was able to come out from behind and score three runs. The eventual game winning score for Radford came from an RBI double by Autumn Slemaker, which allowed Destiny Freeman to cross home plate.
In the circle,
Andrea Lyon took the loss for Gardner-Webb, pitching the full seven frames. Lyon allowed eight hits and three runs, while fanning just three batters.
Schlafer led the Runnin' Bulldogs by going 2-for-4 at the plate, as she scored the only run in the first matchup.
GAME TWO: Gardner-Webb 1, Radford 9
The second game was held up by a thunderstorm delay which occurred right after the fourth inning was completed.
The Highlanders paced game two with 12 hits, leadoff batter Riley Oakes led by going 3-for-4, while the trio of Sydney Fisher, Talia Douglas, and Madison Canady each went 2-for-4 from the plate.
The Runnin' Bulldogs only managed to produce two hits and one run from their lineup in game number two.
Katie Mitchell and
Brooke Perry had one hit apiece, while Perry scored the lone run of the game by hitting a homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Perry took the loss for the Dogs', pitching for five innings she allowed ten hits and five runs, all while fanning five batters.
Gardner-Webb Softball will be back in action of Wednesday, March 31
st, as they travel down to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on Winthrop. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 PM.
