BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Runnin' Bulldogs Softball split its pair of games against the Blue Hose on Friday afternoon at Brinkley Stadium. Taking home a win in the first game 3-1, Gardner-Webb, and dropping the second 9-1, Presbyterian.
GAME ONE: Gardner-Webb 3, Presbyterian 1
In the circle,
Brooke Perry took the win improving her record to 2-9 this season. Pitching the full seven frames, Perry only allowed three hits, one run, and fanned 11 batters.
All of Gardner-Webb's scoring occurred in the bottom of the second inning. It started with an RBI single from
Meredith Ferguson, which allowed Tristan Horrell to come home. Then with the bases loaded, the Blue Hose walked
Leslie McNeil and
Weslyn Almond, allowing
Jenna Wacaster and Bailey Short to cross home plate.
The Blue Hose tried to make a comeback in the sixth inning, as Clark hit a home run to try and close the gap, but it was not enough for Presbyterian to do so.
Leading the Runnin' Bulldogs, Ferguson went 2-for-2 during her at-bats, while Horrell, Wacaster, and McNeil each collected a single hit in game one.
GAME TWO: Presbyterian 9, Gardner-Webb 1
In the circle for Gardner-Webb,
Andrea Lyon took her fifth loss of the season. Throwing for a total of five innings, Lyon allowed eight hits, and six runs. Striking out just four batters.
For the Blue Hose, Haley Haselden took the win. Pitching the full seven innings she allowed just one hit, one run, and hurled seven strikeouts.
Presbyterian paced Gardner-Webb with hitting in the second matchup of the day. As PC had a total of nine hits. Kaitlyn Tucker and Courtney White led the Blue Hose by each going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lyon had the only hit in the second game, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Lyon's hit was an RBI Single in the third inning, allowing Almond to score the only run of the second game.
Gardner-Webb softball will be back in action tomorrow taking on Presbyterian at 1:00 PM at Brinkley Stadium, and a senior day celebration will follow postgame.
