ROCK HILL, S.C.- Gardner-Webb fell to Winthrop in consecutive sets in the final match of a two-match Big South Conference series Friday night inside the Winthrop Coliseum.
Gardner-Webb (2-8, 2-8 Big South) dropped the three sets to Winthrop (5-3, 5-3 Big South) by scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-22.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 36 kills on the night with 114 attempts, hitting at a .184 rate. The Eagles collected 42 smashes on 107 swings with a .224 hitting percentage.
Mikah McIntosh led the Gardner-Webb attack with nine kills on 31 swings, hitting at a .226 rate.
Lauryn Rocassin dished out 30 assists to lead the team.
Sophia Bolden had a team-high 11 digs, while
Delaney McCullough had two total blocks to lead that effort.
Winthrop was paced by Emily Wunder with 10 kills on 12 attempts, while Isabel Schaefbauer led the Eagles with 18 assists.
Nikkia Benitez had a team-best 12 digs, and Olivia Blackketter led her team with three total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns home to Paul Porter Arena for its next Big South series, hosting Campbell on March 11-12. Thursday's match begins at 6:00 pm, with Friday's bout taking place at 4:00 pm, with both contests airing on ESPN+ (WatchESPN.com / ESPN App).
