ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs took a 4-0 loss to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in their final matchup of the season.
Runnin' Bulldogs Men's Soccer ends this season with a 5-6 overall record, while UNC Asheville finishes up this season with a record of 3-4-1 overall.
UNC Asheville's Colin Daughtry and Gavin Long each scored two goals each in the matchup, which led to the eventual loss for Gardner-Webb. Daughtry was able to find the net in the 18
th and 48
th minute, while Long scored in the 39
th and 48
th minutes of gameplay.
Despite taking the loss, Gardner-Webb did pace the matchup in shots by taking a total of 18 with eight of those on goal.
Abel Gebrekiros led the Runnin' Bulldog squad with a total of five shots, while Hendrik Kortgödde and
Sebastian Reventlow each took three shots throughout the game.
Gardner-Webb had four corner kicks which were split evenly between the half's, and was unable to convert on any of them.
Five yellow cards were issued in today's match, two of which that were issued to
Cole Sanfilippo in the 58
th minute and
Ryan Madondo in the 78
th minute.
Mallel Rios spent the full game in-between the posts for Gardner-Webb, having five saves on the day.
Leon Musial earned the shutout for UNC Asheville, tallying up eight total saves in the match.
