CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb right-handed pitcher
Mason Miller has been named the Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week or games played April 19-25, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Miller (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park HS) native was sharp on the mound this past Friday in a 13-1 win against Winthrop, fanning nine batters while allowing just one run to score on five base hits, none for extra bases, in eight innings of work to record his fourth win of the season.
For the year, Miller has a 4-1 record in 10 trips to the mound, nine being starts. In 57.2 innings tossed, he has a cool 2.97 ERA and has struck out 67 batters while holding opposing batters to a low .205 batting average.
Miller leads the Big South in opposing batting average (.205), and is ranked second in batters struck out (67) and batters struck out looking (20), fourth in innings pitched (57.2) and fifth in ERA (2.97).
Gardner-Webb (18-16, 17-8 Big South) returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm at Winthrop before traveling to Charleston, S.C. for a three-game series at Charleston Southern beginning Friday at 6:00 pm.
